Mamu Health Service Limited is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation. We provide culturally appropriate and comprehensive primary health care programs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities in Innisfail and the surrounding areas.
Mamu Health Service Limited has been incorporated since 1st May 1990. Prior to this, we were a branch of Wuchopperen Medical Service in Cairns which was established in July 1981. Basic clinics began operating in Innisfail in 1984.
In 1990 the Innisfail Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community decided to elect their own health committee. On the 1st May 1990, the committee became autonomous from Wuchopperen (who supplied an outreach service since 1984) and adopted the tribal name of MAMU for our clinic. Two years later in 1992, Mamu Health Service Limited established an outreach clinic in Ravenshoe and we also service the Mount Garnet communities.
In 2011 Mamu Health Service Limited established Primary Health Care outreach clinics. These clinics are located in Babinda, Tully, and Cardwell. Also in 2011 Mamu Health Service Limited outreach clinic in Ravenshoe relocated into a new purpose-built multi-disciplinary health care centre. From here, Mamu Health Service Limited provides a service area to the communities west of the Atherton Tablelands, which extends north to Chillagoe, west to Croydon and south to Ravenshoe.
